What do a school trip to Belgium, a holiday in Spain, and a student exchange in Germany have in common?
They’re all possible without border checks, thanks to the Schengen Agreement!
Signed on 14 June 1985, Schengen changed how we travel in Europe. It made it easier to meet people, discover new cultures, and feel part of one big European community. Today, millions of Europeans can study, work, or explore across borders in 25 EU Member States and 4 non-EU countries (Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Liechtenstein) – no passport needed!
As we mark 40 years of Schengen, it’s the perfect time to bring this story into your classroom.
